Bush nonproliferation expert to speak at INEEL National Security Seminar Series
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory is hosting Ambassador Robert G. Joseph for the second lecture of its National Security Seminar Series.
Joseph spent the last four years as the Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Proliferation Strategy, Counterproliferation and Homeland Defense, National Security Council. He will be addressing an invited audience at University Place auditorium in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m.
Nuclear threats to the United States have not diminished since the end of the Cold War. In the past few years, covert activities within Iran, Libya and North Korea have only accentuated the looming danger.
In the Bush Administration, Joseph was responsible, under the supervision of the National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice, for developing and coordinating U.S. policies and strategies for preventing, deterring and defending against all threats to the United States from weapons of mass destruction.
The National Security Seminar Series is intended to bring important speakers to Eastern Idaho to address issues of global importance and create a dialogue among laboratory scientists and area professionals. James Woolsey, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, was the series inaugural speaker. The public is invited to attend, but because of limited seating, must call ahead to reserve space. For more information or to reserve space, contact Kathy Gatens, (208) 526-1058 or kzc@inel.gov.
The INEEL is a science-based, multiprogram national laboratory dedicated to advancing the U.S. Department of Energy's strategic goals in the areas of energy, national security, science and environment. It is the home of science and engineering solutions and is operated for the DOE by Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC.
